Dr. King’s legacy disgraced by identity politics at state house

Yesterday was a day to commemorate and remember the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. A day to celebrate his battle for racial equality, and that people should not be treated differently because of the color of their skin.

Well, the Colorado State Legislature failed Dr. King yesterday.

According to The Complete Colorado, Rep. Perry Buck and Sen. Vicki Marble were denied from introducing a resolution honoring Dr. King – because they are white.

Rep. Buck said she was approached by a member of the black caucus, and was told, “This isn’t about you. This is about our heritage”.

Rep. Buck was composed but modest with her words in calling the situation “sad”.

I think disgusting is a more appropriate word.

On a day that is celebrated by all races, one of our trusted public servants blatantly acted contradictory to the actions and teachings of the man they claimed to be honoring.

We can only hope this legislator realizes the error of his/her identity politics, and apologizes to Rep. Buck and Sen. Marble.
