Denver, CO – According to the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment, $96 million in unemployment benefits were paid out by Colorado last week.

The latest unemployment report is proof of the economic disaster Governor Jared Polis’ orders created.

  • Benefits paid (week ending): Regular UI
  • May 9:        $96.0 Million
  • May 2:        $84.8 Million
  • April 25:    $86.1 Million
  • April 18:     $74.1 Million
  • April 11:     $62.0 Million
  • April 4:       $29.8 Million

Over the last eight weeks, 387,975 initial regular unemployment claims have been filed. Obviously, this does not represent all of the people out of work in Colorado. Many people will not file for unemployment.

Paying these benefits is unsustainable, but Polis’ orders continue to destroy jobs in Colorado.

Despite a decline in initial filings, 22,483 initial regular unemployment claims were filed the week ending May 9.

Colorado’s economy is still collapsing. We are not on the mend.

If people are not allowed to go back to work soon, permanent damage will be done.

There will not be jobs to go back to. Colorado will continue to pay record amounts in unemployment.

This will all happen because Polis is unwilling to admit he was wrong and bring normalcy back to the state.

  1. While I sincerely feel horrible for that lad in the picture holding the sign, the text he wrote is wholly and completely inaccurate. It should state: “I lost my job due to government overreach.”
