Appliance Factory in Denver Makes Case for Why They are ‘Essential’

Denver, CO – The Appliance Factory in Denver recently made a great case for why they are an “essential” business during the government-mandated COVID-19 shutdown.

This is what Sales Director Matt Coudayre told CBS4.

“Right now people need appliances more than ever. They need refrigeration for the food they are buying right now. They obviously need cooking supplies stoves and ranges,” he said.

“Obviously we are working through this with the city right now, but they deemed essential businesses those that provide products and services necessary for maintaining the essential operation of a residence. And we do exactly that,” he said.

That seems reasonable to us. They are following social distancing guidelines, so it sounds like they are in compliance with the ambiguous “Stay at Home” and shutdown orders forced on businesses by Denver and Governor Jared Polis.

Besides, let’s be honest. How many of us are actually Beau Bennett from The Ranch and know how to fix a microwave? [Script transcribed below]

[MAGGIE walks into her Airstream while BEAU BENNETT is completing repairs on her microwave]

MAGGIE: How’s it going?

BEAU BENNETT: Good as new.

Actually, when it was new, it turned on.

And you wonder why our boys are such smart-asses. Maybe I’ll just take it apart and start from the ground up.

Beau, it’s 20 years old. I’ll just buy a new one.

So, you’re just gonna buy a new one every 20 years? They can build these things to last a thousand. But they won’t. ‘Cause of suckers like you.

Yeah, it’s either the Global Kitchen Appliance Cartel, or the fact that I got high and tried to microwave a frying pan.

The Ranch: Part 1, Episode 4, 4:20 (after opening credits)

Check out The Ranch on Netflix if you are looking for something to do while complying with the draconian “Stay at Home” order (unless you are easily offended). Beau is a special kind of anti-government Coloradan that probably wouldn’t put up with Polis’ orders!

Jokes (and unfortunately unpaid Netflix promotions) aside, Coudayre makes a good point. People need appliances if they are stuck at home. Sure, repairmen are considered an “essential” service. But, the reality of the situation is, your wife may just want a new microwave (sorry fellas)!

The Appliance Factory is only allowing three customers in the store at once. They are also following social distancing guidelines laid out by both Denver and the State of Colorado.

That has not stopped the city of Denver from citing them three times and sending them to court where they will likely receive up to a $1,000 fine.

So hey, if you are healthy and need a new microwave, go support a local store in Denver (we don’t say this often)! If you are one of those rare stoners who read our blog, and you have cold hot pockets because your microwave is out, head down to Appliance Factory! If you are already stoned, you can cook it in your oven, which you may have forgotten since marijuana dispensaries are still considered “essential” services.

Coudayre also had this to say according to CBS4:

“We want to work with the city. We want to do it the right way and we’ve appealed to them to get it figured out,” he said.

  1. We have been unable to source a simple part for our new 600 dollar clothes washer and Appliance Factory Outlet continues to tell us week after week, a 4 week delay.

So what, we’re not allowed to repair our appliances anymore? This store should stay open.

When this stupid made in china part finally comes in, I need it immediately.

We’re doing laundry out of a portable, and I’m never buying a GE appliance again.

Lets call this for what it is, discrimination based on employer. A bold move to shut down independent stores. Get out there and go to work. You don’t need the governments permission to have liberty. The government does not grant us liberty, we claimed that ourselves.
