Failing Metro Denver RTD Considering 30 Percent Cut to Staff

Denver, CO – The failing metro Denver RTD is considering up to a 30 percent cut to staff. The Regional Transportation District is projecting a huge budget shortfall.

Projections show a shortfall of $166 million in 2021.

Obviously, the $232 million from the CARES act did not prop up the failing transportation agency.

Services are already down to about 60 percent of what was offered before Governor Jared Polis’ COVID-19 shutdowns. Ridership is down to about 40 percent. This is up only 10 percent from the initial shutdown.

The RTD has always had an issue with funding and will never be self-sufficient. It will always require taxpayer support.

If the RTD cannot weather the pandemic, perhaps it is not essential. After all, private businesses all over Colorado are failing due to Polis’ draconian orders.

Maybe it is time to let the RTD fail, as well.
