GOP Official Playing Favorites in a Potential Primary

Windsor, CO – Thank you to the individual who sent us the following tip through the Citizen Tip Line. The contributor asked to keep their identity private, and as you can tell from their picture editing, they went to great lengths to do so. We will honor that as always!

Their question: why is the head of the Colorado Trump Campaign weighing in on a potential primary race?

That’s an excellent question, since generally these people unless authorized by the campaign (in this case the President Himself), aren’t supposed to weigh in. Plus, there is usually a provision in most official GOP organization’s bylaws against weighing in on primaries by staff.

The screenshot above highlights a Facebook poll conducted by Liberty Prevails Media. The poll asks if Congressman Ken Buck DOESN’T run for re-election, who would you choose: House Republican Leader Patrick Neville or Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams as your Republican candidate.

As you can see, Jefferson Thomas, who was recently appointed the head of the Colorado Trump Campaign, voted for Steve Reams. We’re pretty sure he overstepped here and is unaware of the implications based on his position. Furthermore, we doubt the National Trump campaign is aware he weighed in on a hypothetical primary.

Now you may wonder why we are talking about this. Well, party officials need to know to stay neutral in primaries. Getting involved in primary elections is a quick way to cause hatred among the base, and if Republicans want to win, they need to unify after the primary. If they don’t like that, then they should find a position that allows them to weigh in on primary elections.

Clearly, Jefferson Thomas didn’t get the memo, or he didn’t think this through. We’re really questioning the reasoning of hiring this guy in the first place. Either way, we’re keeping track and putting party officials on notice.
