Denver, CO – John Frank of The Colorado Sun exposed Governor Jared Polis’ “shadow government” nonprofit group in an article published on September 14, 2020.
The language echoes the governor’s policy priorities, and his ties to such an organization raise concerns with ethics advocates who suggest it amounts to a “shadow governance group.” The move comes as the governor campaigns for a key 2020 ballot initiative to achieve one of his campaign promises and two years before he faces reelection.

Boldly Forward Colorado is a 501 C4 nonprofit formed by Polis to assist in his transition to office. It now acts as an advocacy organization for Polis’ administration.
As a 501 C4, Boldly Forward Colorado is not required to disclose its donors or report donations. This makes it incredibly easy to funnel money through the organization to other political entities.
For instance, Boldly Forward Colorado made its first ($50,000) donation to Brighter, Healthier Future for Colorado’s Kids. The group, like Boldly Forward Colorado, is advocating for the Proposition EE tax hike.
Polis’ close ties to the organization is another concern. These nonprofit organizations can be used to buy political favor and even positions in the government.
The two board members at Boldly Forward are Blanca O’Leary, the chairwoman and a former Democratic National Committee member who also helped fundraise for Polis’ inauguration, and Graham Kaltenbach, the treasurer. Kaltenbach is a real estate agent and the husband of Polis’ current interim chief of staff, Rick Palacio, who is the former state Democratic Party chairman. Other associates include Laura Warren, a Democratic fundraiser who is working on Colorado’s COVID Relief Fund created by Polis and previously raised money for the inauguration.

With ties that close to Polis, it is reasonable to consider the notion that Boldly Forward Colorado is a shadowy extension of the Polis administration.

Perhaps its coming form the New York Governor Como which he supported Hickey when he was running for Governor and we all wondered how he got so much money?
