Proposition CC (Unofficially) Loses by Double Digits

Denver, CO – As of 9:05 am, the contentious statewide tax increase, Proposition CC, is losing by more than ten points. The results are still technically unofficial. But with the majority of votes counted, we can confidently say the proposition lost.

Only 11 of 64 counties voted for Proposition CC. Notably, Denver, Boulder, Pitkin, and San Miguel counties voted in favor of the proposition by over 66 percent. The proposition only passed by a narrow margin in San Juan and La Plata counties in southwestern Colorado.

Statewide, 1,360,441 votes were cast for or against the tax increase. Of that, 749,905 voters (55.12 percent) rejected the proposition.

Historically, tax increases do not do well in Colorado. Since the adoption of the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, Coloradans only approved two tax increases – for marijuana and cigarettes.

Knowing this, we expected Proposition CC to fail.

Democrats attempted to spike the football with the proposition after a record spending spree in 2019. They failed, and that failure shows Colorado is not as blindly blue as Democrats think.
