Black Hawk, CO – Proposition DD needed $2.3 million and little organized opposition to pass on Colorado’s 2019 ballot.

Proposition DD asked voters to approve three things: sports betting, a new tax on sports betting, and a water plan. Voters in Colorado rarely pass tax increases. So it is hardly surprising the sports betting “sin tax” passed by such a narrow margin.

The results of Proposition DD demonstrate Colorado voter’s penchant to oppose statewide tax increases. Little money was spent opposing the proposition. Meanwhile, casino and gaming interests threw huge sums of money at a political action committee set up to help the proposition pass.

When all was said and done, Yes on Proposition DD spent over $2.3 million.

Despite the lopsided effort, the proposition only passed by a slim margin. 50.71 percent of voters said yes, and 49.29 percent voted no according to the unofficial election results posted at 3:02 pm.

Voters obviously do not trust the Colorado government to spend their money responsibly. As such, voters will expect Democrats in control of the legislature to spend the new tax money on approved items, without cutting current funding.
