CBS “investigative reporter” Brian Maass smears Rep. Patrick Neville

In what amounted to an undeniable attempt to smear House Minority Leader Patrick Neville, CBS Denver Reporter Brian Maass proved why the liberal media is losing viewers.

For an “investigative journalist” Maass left some gaping holes in his coverage of the town hall held by Neville. Now, we are not Emmy award-winning investigative journalists like Maass, but uncovering some basic facts about his sources and the actual event was not difficult.

For instance, Maass only briefly mentioned the event took place more than two months ago. If you miss part of the first sentence, you would think the event took place just the other day.

Not only that, but Maass quickly brushed over the rude and disrespectful behavior of Neville’s opposition. Town hall events are supposed to be peaceful and respectful gatherings where constituents can voice their opinions. Instead, opposition at this town hall spent their time disrupting the event, a strategy practiced by many liberal activists.

Joy Overbeck an author and journalist, had this to say on Neville’s Facebook page.

But what undoubtedly makes this a smear piece is the fact Maass failed to identify the other Republican officials present at the meeting. Instead, only stating, “The event was billed as a “Douglas County Legislators Town Hall” featuring four Republican state representatives and one Republican state senator.”

Interviews

On top of all this, Maass interviewed a Castle Rock resident who claimed to oppose the location of the town hall but failed to inform readers of her bias. Democrat Carol Johnson recently failed in her bid for Douglas County Clerk and Recorder by a substantial margin.

Johnson’s interview is just a pitiful attempt to stay relevant in a county she has no business representing.

How does Maass forget to include these facts in his report? It seems deliberate.

Perhaps the most absurd point of this “investigative” piece is when Maass attempts to liken the gun store to a strip club. Would you take your child to a strip club? We wouldn’t, but we would certainly allow them in a gun store where they can be properly educated about gun safety.

If Maass really wants to bill himself as an investigative journalist, perhaps he should report on all the facts and not just the ones that support liberal talking points.
