Proposition CC is a Tax Increase

Denver, CO – Proposition CC is a tax increase.

You will hear over and over again from Colorado Democrats (and unfortunately some Republicans) that the Proposition CC tax increase does not raise your taxes. This is factually incorrect.

According to Colorado’s Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR), if state tax revenue exceeds a certain cap, the state owes taxpayers a refund. Prop CC permanently (forever) removes this requirement.

So if Colorado is allowed to keep future refunds from taxpayers, this is an increase in each individual’s current tax liability. Tax liability is the total amount in taxes that citizens owe to the government. Therefore, any measure that increases tax liability is a tax increase.

House Speaker KC Becker (D-Boulder) claims it is a small amount (tax increase) individually. However, future return estimates for Coloradans are as high as $248. That is a lot of money for most people.

Becker also admits proponents want more than just your tax refund.

Becker described it as a “good first step” toward funding areas “that need the money most” rather than a solution to the state’s education and transportation funding needs.

So not only does Becker think she knows how much money your family needs, but she wants to increase taxes even if voters approve Prop CC. We want to know how many more steps it will take before Democrats stop spending on frivolous projects and fund taxpayer priorities.

Democrats overspent in 2019. Now they are willing to lie and raise taxes to fix their funding mistakes.

  1. Fire half of the entire government staff instead. You’re fired. Release all leased buildings and only operate with owned property. Get some solar up there and stop paying such high utility bills. Something other than more taxes is absolutely positively a better solution. Anything other than new taxes. Cutting public burden migrants off of the welfare roles would save a fortune.
