Aurora, CO – Communist and Socialist groups, including Abolish ICE Denver, disrupted an Aurora City Council meeting Monday, October 7, 2019.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation – Denver, Answer Coalition: Colorado, and The Resistance 5280 also officially hosted the disruption, according to Facebook. Even the Denver Communists got in on the fun, promoting the disruption of the community meeting.
Do these groups believe disrupting the democratic process will force the government to meet their demands? Do they actually believe terrorizing neighborhoods and families will bring about the change they want?

Protestors had to be removed before the meeting was able to resume.
Demands
While the protestors were intending to disrupt the democratic process they supposedly support, they made a number of demands.
- Stop using local city resources to help federal immigration enforcement.
– Prohibit all local participation in any civil immigration enforcement operations including raids, investigations, interrogations, apprehensions or detentions.
– Prohibit all City departments, officials, and agencies from providing information about the citizenship status, release status or personal information of any individual to ICE.
– Prohibit any officer, employee or agent from permitting ICE officers access to city facilities, property, equipment, or databases.
– Prohibit all city officers or facilities from holding detainees for ICE, including short-term “courtesy holds”. - Pass a divestment resolution ensuring that city public funds and public employees’ pensions (GERP) are not used to invest in private prison corporations like GEO or CoreCivic.
- Use city funds to pay for legal representation and detention bonds for detained immigrants.
- Prohibit Aurora police from relying on race, immigration status, or language proficiency when deciding whether to stop, question, search, arrest or detain someone.
- Pass an ordinance that can guarantee that any undocumented person within the city of Aurora can contact emergency services with guarantee of not being arrested due to their immigration status.
- Request that APD immediately release the entire record of the Aug. 24 incident, including 911and police dispatch audio, and all related video camera footage. All involved officers should be fired, jailed, and prosecuted for their involvement in Elijah’s murder.
There are major problems with the demands, however.
Aurora and the rest of Colorado are already a sanctuary for illegal aliens. Aurora does not actively assist federal immigration authorities, nor do they pass information to immigration authorities.
Not only do these socialist groups want special protections that already exist for illegal aliens in the city, but they also want the city to dictate how employees invest their money.
Worse than that, they want to spend taxpayer dollars to represent illegal aliens. Denver is already spending over $200,000 per year on representation and projects benefiting illegal aliens. We would venture a guess that these obstructionist political “activists” want to add at least one zero to that number.
It is clear these groups have zero respect for the rule of law. What’s more, they obviously have no respect for their community members or respectful decorum in politics. That is, assuming they are even members of the Aurora community.
