Polis Extended His “Emergency” Executive Powers Until at Least July 19

Denver, CO – Governor Jared Polis extended his “emergency” executive powers until at least July 19, 2020, with Executive Order D2020-109.

Polis spent the last three months ordering Coloradans around. He moved money around at his discretion, ordered the closure of private businesses, and even meddled in the housing market.

The fact that Polis can extend these orders that give him nearly unchecked power is extremely dangerous.

There is no requirement for legislative oversight. Instead, Polis could extend this disaster order indefinitely.

A solution is to require legislative approval after a certain period of time.

For instance, after one month, all disaster orders would require approval from the Colorado State Legislature. At the very least, a committee could be required to approve the governor’s orders.

So far, Polis has issued 113 disaster orders without any legislative oversight.

The Governor of Colorado has veto power over all bills passed by the legislature, so why shouldn’t the legislature have veto power over Polis’ executive orders?

Now, with the legislature in full Democrat control, it is unlikely the Democrats would challenge Polis. However, having that safety net in place may be necessary in the future.

Elected or not, a government that can be almost entirely controlled by a single person is a danger to us all.

  1. Well what can we do about that? Our Legislatures do not seem to be doing much about it. This is Anarchy at the best. He needs to be removed. The entire State needs to push for his Removal at any cost. He claims that he can’t be removed but that isn’t exactly right is it? Some how we must be able to get him out of office. Surly has doesn’t have so much power that he can cause everyone to be at his beck and call just because he is a Democrat. This is absurd.

    1. I they are actually in this tyranny with him. No one even tries to end it. This is one citizen that wants it ended.

  2. This is what you want.

The quasi-libertarian governor whom runs democrat, swiping cash and rights left and right. Were you aware this individual is one of the richest members of the Colorado representative body? He’s continuing to earn while Coloradoans are being taxed and regulated to death, going under or being laid off everywhere you look. Take the stupid mask off, it’s about as effective as a chain link fence being used to stop a swarm of mosquitoes.

Taxation without representation. John Patrick Henry.

  3. As has been pointed out by many others, King Polis will not give up his reigns of power unless he is forced out of office via a second recall attempt. Seems easy enough to collect the signatures now that they can be collected online (one of Polis’ other EOs). I think most Coloradans are pretty much ignoring him and his lock down orders anyway. They have had enough, even Democrats and Unaffiliated voters who voted for the king, are sick of it.
